How Often Should My Child Have Tuition?
For many students, one well-planned lesson per week is enough. More tuition is not automatically better.
Once a week
Weekly tuition often suits students who need regular guidance, concept clarification or steady examination preparation.
Twice a week
Two lessons a week may be useful when:
- the child has substantial learning gaps;
- an examination is approaching;
- the subject requires frequent guided practice;
- one lesson focuses on concepts while another focuses on application.
When extra lessons may not help
If a child is overloaded with school, CCA and several tuition subjects, adding more sessions can reduce sleep and independent study time.
Think in terms of the learning cycle
- Learn or clarify the concept.
- Practise independently.
- Identify mistakes.
- Review those mistakes with the tutor.
If tuition is so frequent that there is no time for independent practice, the child may become dependent on constant guidance.
Practical starting point: for many students, start with once a week and increase only when there is a clear reason.
