FAQ for Tutors
Detailed answers about tutor registration, safety, assignments, applications, shortlisting, first lessons, commission, PayNow, account rules and support.
Registration & Account
How do I register as a tutor?
Register with your contact details, profile information, qualifications, tutor type, teaching subjects and levels, availability, expected rate and required supporting documents.
What documents do I need to provide?
You should provide the required highest-qualification supporting document and any optional additional certificates or parent/student result evidence requested by the registration form.
Must my tutor account be approved?
Yes. Grade Improve may review tutor profiles and supporting documents before the account is fully active for assignment applications.
Can I edit my tutor profile later?
Yes. Profile details such as contact information, teaching profile, availability, rates and relevant background can be updated. Some account-status changes remain under admin control.
Why might my profile be hidden or restricted?
A profile may be hidden or an account restricted for review, policy issues, overdue commission, suspicious activity or other administrative reasons.
Is there a fee to register as a Grade Improve tutor?
No. There is no tutor registration fee. Commission applies only when a tuition arrangement proceeds under Grade Improve's confirmation workflow and the commission becomes payable.
What is the Safety Declaration?
The Safety Declaration is your confirmation that, to the best of your knowledge, you are not restricted or disqualified from relevant teaching or child-facing work, you have no relevant criminal convictions or pending charges that may affect your suitability to work with children, and you will inform Grade Improve if this changes.
Does the Safety Declaration mean Grade Improve has completed a background check on me?
No. It is a tutor self-declaration. Grade Improve may review information and documents, but the declaration does not mean an independent background check has been completed unless Grade Improve expressly states otherwise.
Finding & Applying for Assignments
How will I find tuition assignments?
Assignments may be shown through Grade Improve's tutor channels, including the tutor platform, invitation emails and Telegram assignment postings.
Do I have to apply for every assignment I receive?
No. Apply only when the assignment genuinely matches your subjects, level, location or lesson mode, availability and expected rate.
What do I submit when applying?
You may provide your proposed rate, available timing, earliest start date and a short application message explaining why you are suitable.
Can I change my proposed rate later?
The parent and tutor may agree on a different final rate before or at the first lesson. If the arrangement proceeds, commission is calculated from the final agreed rate and lesson duration.
Can I withdraw an application?
If you are no longer available, withdraw or notify Grade Improve as soon as possible so the parent is not considering an unavailable tutor.
When will the parent see my contact details?
Your contact details are revealed only after the parent shortlists you.
Can I apply before my tutor account is approved?
No. Your account must be in a state that allows applications. Pending, restricted, suspended or otherwise blocked accounts may not be able to apply.
Can I contact the parent before I am shortlisted?
No. Parent contact details are protected before shortlisting. Apply through Grade Improve and wait for the parent to shortlist you before direct contact details are revealed.
Does applying guarantee that the parent will contact me?
No. The parent may receive several applications and decides whom to shortlist. A clear, relevant application improves your chances, but selection is never guaranteed.
Can I cancel the parent's tuition request?
No. A tutor cannot cancel the parent's overall request. If you are no longer available, withdraw your own application where possible or inform Grade Improve promptly so the parent is not relying on an unavailable tutor.
Shortlisting, Contact & First Lesson
What happens when I am shortlisted?
The parent can contact you directly to discuss the assignment and arrange the first lesson. Please respond promptly and confirm the practical details clearly.
Should I confirm the rate and lesson duration before the first lesson?
Yes. Clear agreement on rate, duration, schedule and location helps prevent misunderstanding later.
What happens after the first lesson?
The parent and tutor confirm the first-lesson outcome and final agreed terms. If both sides proceed with the tuition arrangement, the workflow can move to commission payment.
What if the parent and I submit different lesson details?
The case may be placed into admin review. Grade Improve can resolve the mismatch using the parent version, tutor version or corrected values.
What if the tuition assignment is cancelled after the first lesson?
If the tuition assignment is cancelled after the first lesson instead of continuing, you do not need to pay Grade Improve any tuition commission. The parent will also not receive the S$20 voucher.
Does simply attending the first lesson mean commission is due?
No. Under this rule, the first lesson alone does not make commission payable. If the assignment is cancelled after that first lesson, there is no commission and no parent voucher. Commission applies only when the tuition arrangement proceeds under Grade Improve's confirmation workflow.
What should I do if the parent does not reply after shortlisting me?
Give the parent reasonable time to respond and keep your availability up to date. If the situation remains unclear or affects the assignment status, contact Grade Improve for assistance rather than repeatedly contacting the parent.
Do I need to confirm the Safety Declaration again when I apply?
Yes. Grade Improve requires tutors to confirm that the Safety Declaration remains accurate when applying for an assignment.
Commission & Payment
How much commission do I pay?
When commission becomes payable, it is equal to one lesson tuition fee based on the final agreed hourly rate multiplied by the final agreed lesson duration.
When do I pay commission?
Commission is requested after the first-lesson confirmation workflow establishes that the tuition arrangement is proceeding. If the assignment is cancelled after the first lesson, no commission is payable.
How can I pay commission?
Grade Improve supports Stripe PayNow for commission payment. Follow the secure payment link provided by Grade Improve.
What happens after I pay?
The commission is marked paid, the parent's voucher can move to the eligible approval stage, and any commission restriction is removed if you have no other overdue commission.
What happens if I do not pay an outstanding commission?
Grade Improve sends reminder emails according to the payment-reminder schedule. An overdue commission may restrict your ability to apply for new assignments until the outstanding amount is settled.
If I pay one overdue commission, is my account always unrestricted immediately?
Only if there are no other overdue commission payments. If another overdue commission remains, the commission restriction may stay in place.
What if my PayNow payment is cancelled, fails or expires?
A failed, cancelled or expired payment does not mark the commission as paid. You can return to the commission payment page and retry using a new secure payment session.
Can I get a receipt after paying commission?
Yes. After a successful commission payment is recorded, the tutor can view and print the commission receipt from the Grade Improve payment details flow.
Telegram, Invitations & Privacy
What are Telegram assignment posts for?
Telegram is used to publicise suitable open assignments without exposing the parent's private contact details.
Does a Telegram post guarantee the assignment is still available?
No. Assignments can close quickly. Grade Improve checks assignment state before posting or applying, but tutors should rely on the current platform status.
What is a tutor invitation email?
Grade Improve may invite tutors who appear suitable for an open assignment. An invitation is not a guarantee of selection; the tutor still needs to apply and the parent makes the final choice.
Can an old invitation link still be used after the assignment closes?
No. Grade Improve blocks applications through old invitation links when the assignment is no longer open.
Will my contact details be shown publicly?
No. Tutor contact details are not included in public assignment advertisements. They are revealed to a parent only after that parent shortlists you.
Professional Expectations & Support
What makes a strong tutor application?
Be specific about relevant subject and level experience, availability and how you can help the student. Avoid generic messages that do not address the assignment.
Should I guarantee grades or examination results?
No. Tutors should describe their teaching approach and experience honestly rather than promising guaranteed results.
What if I cannot continue an assignment?
Inform the parent promptly and notify Grade Improve where necessary so the assignment status and any related commission issue can be handled correctly.
What if I have a dispute about the first lesson or commission?
Contact Grade Improve before ignoring a payment request or taking further action. Where there is a mismatch or genuine dispute, admin review can be used to resolve the record.
How can I contact Grade Improve?
Use the Contact page for help with account review, assignment applications, first-lesson confirmation, commission or technical issues.
What should I do if my availability changes after I apply?
Update or communicate the change as soon as possible. If you can no longer take the assignment, withdraw or notify Grade Improve promptly so the parent is not considering outdated availability.
