Tuition Agency Commission in Singapore: How Does It Work?

Tuition agencies use different commission structures. Before accepting an assignment, tutors should understand when commission becomes payable, how it is calculated and what happens if the tuition arrangement does not continue.

1. What is tuition agency commission?

Commission is a service fee charged by a tuition agency for helping to connect a tutor with a parent or student. The exact structure depends on the agency's terms.

2. Read the commission terms before applying

Check the amount, trigger for payment, payment method and what happens if the assignment is cancelled. Do not assume every agency uses the same rule.

3. How Grade Improve calculates commission

For Grade Improve Version 1, when commission becomes payable, it is equal to one lesson tuition fee: the final agreed hourly rate multiplied by the final agreed lesson duration.

4. When Grade Improve commission becomes payable

Commission is requested only after the first-lesson confirmation workflow establishes that the tuition arrangement is proceeding. Simply attending a first lesson does not by itself make commission payable under this rule.

5. What if the assignment is cancelled after the first lesson?

If the tuition assignment is cancelled after the first lesson instead of continuing, no Grade Improve commission is payable and the parent does not receive the S$20 voucher.

6. How tutors pay Grade Improve commission

Grade Improve supports Stripe PayNow for tutor commission payment. Tutors should use the secure payment link provided through the platform.

7. What happens after payment?

The commission is marked paid, a tutor receipt can be available, and the parent voucher can move to the eligible approval stage. Any commission restriction is removed only if there are no other overdue commission payments.
